In the winter of 2015 I was lucky enough to spend many afternoons with this Barred Owl, which will forever be one of my favorite memories with wildlife. For a few amazing weeks, I would spend most days wearing all my winter gear and sitting in waist deep snow, and eventually this owl decided I was no threat, flying in close to per perch nearby and scan this large field for it's next meal.
I took thousands of photos during that time, but this is one of my favorites. One beautiful afternoon while sitting in a deep snow drift, my new friend flew in close to perch on a nearby tree, eventually resting it's eyes to soak in the warm afternoon sun.
