Spring Thaw

Cascades along the Pemi Trail in Franconia Notch State Park, New Hampshire. I always loved the look of fresh snow and waterfalls, but lining up conditions has always been a challenge for me. Typically with the first snowfall, most of the good waterfalls in the White Mountains have dried to a trickle, looking fairly unimpressive. With early spring, by the time most of the ice has thawed on the waterfalls for good flow, the last good snowstorm was weeks ago- so when a fresh 3-6" had dropped in the mountains with good waterflow, my girlfriend and I packed up the car and rushed up north to catch it.

While the Basin may get most of the fame for this section of trail, I always preferred this little cascade just above it, with a footbridge to pause and watch for a moment.
